Our Quacky Family
Chad and I have wanted a dog for a long time, we even almost had one about 4 months after we got married when Taylor(Chads Brother) got a pit bull that he couldn't take care of. Anyways, we've tried but with our schedule and our lack of time and money, its just not going to happen :( Well our lack of cuddly pet has made us extremely baby hungry, because every one knows that when your a newly wed and you want a pet, you don't really want a pet, you want a baby, but a pet helps you get your cuddle fill until you realize that nothings as awesome as a baby! Chad and I were grabbing some supplies at Cal Ranch Store and we saw three huge cages with a ton of baby chicks and ducklings, we fell in love! We went over to see the ducklings but they were already all sold and we knew that the chicks turned into chickens and we defiantly didn't want that! So We went home, duck-less and chick-less :( the next week chad came home and put this box on my lap, i thought it was just a happy meal but then the nuggets started chirping! I open the box and found the most adorable little ducklings looking up at me!
They were both so cute and cuddly! We decided that each of us would name one, Chad chose the black one and due to his...darker color, Chad chose the name Gerome..nice :) and I chose Roger...don't ask :)
They are so funny. Ducklings are very territorial and that's why Chad bought two! They have to have another to watch and to be watched over by. When ever we separated them from each others sight, they started chirping and looking around frantically, its adorable! They were so small, they fit in the very center of the palm of my hand, and they would just cuddle up to stay warm against you.
This is a picture of thier first swim! they LOVED the water!
This is them at a week old! Still adorable! There adult feathers are already starting to come in!
This is two weeks old, And we are even starting to potty train them! and ITS WORKING! I've been told that thats impossible with ducks but OUR ducks are super smart! We have a sheet that we allow them to walk on over the carpet, if they leave the sheet, I tap the sheet with my hand and they run back on to it! They are even starting to respond to my voice! Not to mention, thier duckling instincts to follow thier mom, they follow me everywhere! I'll run down the hallway and, sheet or no sheet, they will run after me and get going so fast that when I stop they cant slow down fast enough and run into my ankles! SO CUTE! We took them out to play during general conference but Roger just really wanted to take notes with me!
They both just waddled up and ploped down on my book, they are getting so much bigger, its CRAZY! Its only been three weeks and they have doubled in size!
Here is Roger and Gerom Cuddling with daddy, they LOVE getting snuggled up next to his neck! So pefect! I know its kinda goofy for us to be raising ducks but hey, we're young, we've got no money, and a three dollar pet is perfect. They fun and we know we'll have to get rid of them soon but they have been a total blast!
They are so so so so stinking cute! I'm jealous!
ReplyDeleteThey are so cute and SMART.
ReplyDeleteI wish you could bring them to meet their gramarama. You two are smart to stick with the ducks right now, good training to be a parent :}
Those are SOO cute! I think we're getting more baby chicks and some bunnies this year for Easter. We always shove em in the kid's easter baskets, but we'll be in the valley for easter, so hopefully they'll be here waiting when we get back. Someday we'll have a pond and get some ducklings. I wanna hold them!!!!!
