So I am doing my first sprint triathlon tomorrow. (refer to title)
I'm so nervous! I didn't know it was this weekend and just started training last Friday.
For those of you who don't know, a sprint triathlon is about half the length of a normal one, making it 3.1 miles of running, 12 miles of biking and 24 lengths of swimming. I started training by doing my first 5k last weekend and it went pretty well, then again, it was at night and I didn't have to swim and spin after it. The second time I did the 5K I did about a minute and a half faster so I hope to keep that number going down. The triathlon starts at noon, so my running environment will be drastically different but I have always been a good distance runner so I hope I can shave off a few seconds.
Cycling is a cuss. I hate it. I don't even see myself ever remotely liking it ever, but, I will do it for this fetching triathlon. I went as fast as I could without screaming profanities and I did 12 miles in 30 minutes and 18 second. Chad got on the bike to do it with me and i looked away for maybe a second and he had escaped (he's not one for long distance anything so watching him do this triathlon should be funny.)
As for swimming, I don't have the slightest idea of what to think. Every time I go to swim laps there is only one lane set up and its got about 9 swimmers taking turns so timing myself would be impossible. I was doing laps last night and I got the most painful cramp in the arch of my foot that took literally 20 minutes to go away...soooo if that happens tomorrow....screwed. But I'm taking potassium tablets today and tomorrow so that should help
My best 5Ktime is 28:52 so I hope to beat that... then with swimming and biking.... if I finish them, I'll be happy. I'm not under-motivated just realistic.
Monika and I have this crazy idea, take the next 12 weeks to train and train and trains, then...run a 1/2 marathon! Whos in?
