Mati-Boys Birthday Recap

Matix is one. His birthday was perfect and we just can't believe he's already through his first year. April is kind of the craziest month of the year in the Merrell family....between the Merrells and the Gutterys...11 birthdays, guys that's a lot to keep up with, needless to say if you're birthday is past the 20th...you get nothing, everyones good and done with celebrating and heaven knows no one needs ckae 11 times in one month but for Mati-boy we splurged and made sure he got his first real cake smash. And its always such a treat to have Breea there documenting it all, she's just the best at capturing the most memorable moments..not to mention, we just kinda love her.

We had Matixs favorite dinner, Spaghetti and meat sauce and we snuggled in his favorite blanket and watched Moana...what more could a 1 year old ask for! We went bowling as a family to celebrate dads birthday just after and we all had a blast...we are all horrible....except my dad...hmmm, maybe that's why he wanted to bowl?

Today was Matix's actual birthday and we had a lovely day, we went to the library, the splash pad and out for lunch. It was the first day in a week that he was really 100% himself and the fever was all the way gone so it was great seeing him so happy again! we had a few little gifts for him, but we waited til dad got home from work to open them!

Matix is such a light and comfort to our family. I know this is Matixs birthday so without taking the attention away from him too much, I have to say, it's been impressive watching Liam become a big brother, seeing him today in reference to his first few months as a brother, I'm just so proud. I feel like finally, they're both in sync and recognize each other as brothers and friends. They take care of each other. Liam always comforts him when he's sad, sings to him while I change his diaper, shares (almost) everything with him and constantly create new game for them to play together. Matix wrestles with Liam more than anyone, when Liam goes to time out, Matix crawls over to the corner to keep him company and just sits there by him and he follows him everywhere when they play in the front yard! Now that's not to say Liam doesn't test his limits from time to time but inside, he knows his job as the oldest and Matix has learned to love the growing pains. I love their age gap now.

Matix is not walking yet, just little steps here and there but it'll happen this month for sure. He has 9 teeth and i think this last fever was him getting a few more in. He says mama and dada but i'm not sure if he really knows what it means, but we'll take it. He loves clicking his tongue and raising his eyebrows. Dad is his favorite and he loves spinning in circles as fast as he can. Outside is his favorite place to be and when the door opens, he will try to escape...every time. he's dramatic and we still using the loving nickname DraMatix. If he's sad, he's devastated and when he's happy, he's laughing at everything. Its wonderful and exhausting.

Some (just a few) of our favorite Memories with him from the last year were
-When we went tothe petting zoo for the first time and realized how much Matix LOVEs all animals, he would have eaten them if he wasnt supervised.
-When Matix learned he could spin in his excersaucer and he ended up spinning til he couldnt see straight.
-When he had water from a cup for the first time and spilt all over himself, was completely unfased by it and begged for more!
-When he had to get his heels pricked for his Iron deficiency and laughed the while time because as they queezed his feet he thought they were tickling him!
-His first haircut! We shaved him practically bald and he looked a little like a jail cell mate but he loved when we touched his head for a while after because it was so fuzzy.
-The first time Liam made him laugh. We were eating breakfast and Liam made a silly noise and we sat at the table for an hour, recreating that noise to relive that happy moment for both of them.
- Countless wrestling matches and tickle fights when dad gets home form work...our favorite time of the day.
- We love how he can find the Guitar where ever i hide it and bang on it to his hearts content.
- He eats popcorn like no ones watching...its a little embarrassing.
- I remember the first time he responded to his name, he loves unplugging stuf and I'll say his name to stop him and he'll look back and smile.

Matix, we could eat you up, we love you so!
