Old Wives Tales

"Old wives' tale" (definition according to Wikipedia),  is a derogatory epithet used to indicate that a supposed truth is actually a superstition or something untrue, to be ridiculed. The phrase comes with the assumption that a story told by old women could not have credibility, regardless of the particulars of the story. The phrase is used in the context of unvalued women's knowledge. It can be said sometimes to be a type of urban legend, said to be passed down by older women to a younger generation. Such "tales" are considered superstitions, folklore or unverified claims with exaggerated and/or inaccurate details.

SO... with that in mind I have tried every one in the book to get this baby on the ball. It seems that, by definition, these wives tales are made up to fool others and talk people into doing things that may or may not be for their benefit, but since women are known to be the creators of these tales, I'm almost positive that my fellow female race would not lead me astray on the topic of "Natural Labor Induction". NO woman who has ever been in this kind of pain and discomfort would tell me to do anything silly if it didn't absolutely work...right!?

well thats what I'm riding on anyways.

Here are a few I've heard. Now, moms out there, flag down the crazy ones and endorse the good ones, okay?

-Walking, walking walking!
-Raspberry Leaf tea
-Evening Prime rose pills
-Peppermint oil on the feet
-Sex
-Prenatal massages
-Spicy foods?
-Eating Pineapple
-Bouncing on exercise ball

I'm not THAT desperate to get this baby out, honestly, I'd be totally fine if he came right on time but I wanna help him along his way as it gets closer so we aren't dealing with a Will Ferrell baby...there's no coming back from that...

  1. In the Bradley Method child birth classes we took, they said that eating 6 dates a day for four weeks before your due date it will help him come on time and a shorter labor. Of course the study that's based on isn't overwhelmingly awesome or anything... but on a small scale study it worked! http://blogs.babycenter.com/mom_stories/can-eating-dates-lead-to-a-shorter-labor/
