Thank You Mallory

My dear friend Mallory had her baby a week or so ago and I was so excited to get a call from her the other day! Sam (her precious little boy) is doing so well and so is mommy and it was great catching up, and by "catching up", I mean "asking her to spill every little detail about the birth and the week following it". She's a sport and humored my immature, naive questions.
You see, Mallory and I know each other. We've seen each others good and bad days, our good and bad years and everything in between so she did what every good friend should do, she told me the truth. Which I greatly appreciated seeing as the majority of the moms I know tell me the same thing..."Labor was painful but it was a wonderful experience and the baby's healthy and I'm great a breastfeeding and my moms here to help and everything's great and you'll learn as you go because it just comes naturally.."
While I appreciate different perspectives, I've always thought that was just a little fishy. Don't get me wrong, if your birth story is really that great, GOOD FOR YOU! Thats so awesome and I can only hope that it is for me too but I've got a few months, I'd like to do some planning incase it's not all that "natural" for me. I'd like to hear about what will most definitely come with motherhood...obstacles.
Mallory had a great story to tell because it wasn't perfect! Mallory is an amazing, strong girl and I know she's a great mother already to little Sam but she assured me it isn't naturally easy. There is quite a learning curve for somethings and I take comfort in that. Motherhood is not about having a baby, it's about a raising one and we each have to approach that differently according to our circumstances.

After our conversation, Mallory posted this picture on FB and I just loved it! It shows how great kids come from all sorts of circumstances and great mothers do too!
Less judging, more learning! I love it! It reminds me of relief society in so many ways and I think that's how motherhood is supposed to be, for those with kids and without. Women should be able to support one another no matter the circumstances, we are responsible for way to much of the Fathers plan not to help each other out. I hope I can always remember this and be a better mother, friend and woman.
