Big Hitter

Liam completed his first season of T-ball and it was, in a word, hilarious. Chad jumped at the opportunity to fulfill a life long dream and coach his son for the first time in his favorite sport. I don't think he was prepared for the level of chaos and distraction that would dominate each practice and game but as any good coach does, he rolled with the punches and became a perfect, playful, kind coach to those crazy kids.
Matix was a great observer and became fond of the chilly mornings cuddled up in blankets in our lawn chairs, eating breakfast burritos and sipping on brothers water bottle. He took every opportunity to slip away from my vision and steal a bat or a glove and bolt to the field but I caught he before any damage was done most of the time.
Millie was not as fond of the sport but Liam was bound and determined to force her into submission. As loving cousins do.
They ended up having some fun games together and best of all, no fighting! They did great together and built some good team player skills.

Practices were silly and wonderful and the kids learned more about following instruction and stretching than baseball. They worked hard though and after a few weeks they were ready to go! Or so they thought.
Liams first game was one for the books. It reminded me of the way pigeons look when they are thrown a scrap piece of bread in the streets. They all seemed to be doing their own things until a ball was hit, then the out feild forgot all rules and let their posts to bolt after the ball, piling up on it and even fighting over it, completely forgetting the hitter who was running the bases without a care. They had fun but the coach realized who he was really working with.
We put in a lot of off-the-clock hours and Liams hitting has improved tremendously!  He LOVE playing catch and has even learned when to stop and go when running the bases! What more could a mother ask for.
