Musings of Matix

Matix loves animals so much, he loves birds especially and points them out whenever he can. He loves hearing and making the chirping sound and squeezes his shoulders slowly to his ears with glee  because of how much he loves their songs. It reminds me of Grandma Guttery and her wall of birds, I feel like it must be a genetic bond that causes them both to have such a love for feathered friends.

Liam loves when i read him books but will never let on that he's enjoying it. He's like a little tough guy that wants to keep his face as a roll-in-the-mud, bang-on-pots-and-pans kind of boy but when he doesn't think I'm looking, he gets sucked into the colorful illustrations of a book and i like to think he likes the sing-songy nature of my reading voices too but we may never know.

Matix can always be lulled by a sweet song. He particularly loves when his brother sings "I loved you, the first time I saw you, and I always will love you Mati"...ok, I particularly love it, but Matix is always silent and happy to her brother sing to him, knowing it'll be followed by a kiss on the forehead.

Matix and our puppy, Chip have a very special relationship. They dig holes together, the catch bubbles together, they would eat and drink out of the same bowls if I wasn't watching, matix always spoils him with scraps of food and Chip greets his every morning with big human sized hugs and kisses. Matix is surprisingly gentle and sensitive to all animals but having this puppy has given him a chance to love animals even more. The kid can hardly say mama but "puppy" is no problem and its the first thing he asks for when he wakes up.

Matix is a screecher! He isn't communicating much and we've reached a point of frustration where both him and I are struggling to communicate our needs without the use of language. He can say some basics (mama, dada, Liam, puppy, and that's about it) he used to raise both hands above his head and yell "Aayy!" when we guess right about what he wanted, that evolved to him saying "uh-huh" for "Yes" but the emphasis was on Uh instead of Huh...so cute... but I really wish we could at least get a solid "yes" and "no" to help with getting him what he wants. For right now, when he doesn't get what he wants, he lets out a loud scream of disapproval that are followed by threats of timeout and pleading for words I can do something with. Its a struggle but we'll get there.

Matix also is a doer. He doesn't like sitting around, he likes coloring or playing in the yard, or chasing his brother, or wrestling on the bed or couch. He also like playing in the toilet, dumping bags of flour or outs all over the kitchen floor, playing the the puppies food and water walking around the house with a full bottle of hair gel, just to make me nervous. he is always getting into something but he is never bored. I love his adventurous spirit and fearless desire to try new things...even if it makes a mess,  it makes him think and smile.

Matix we love you and are so grateful for your kisses, snuggles and laughter!
